Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at joggy@newhorizonstherapy.org.uk if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Integrative therapy is a flexible approach to counselling that combines different techniques such as person-centred therapy, psychodynamic counselling, and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). Instead of sticking to one fixed method, integrative counselling adapts to your unique needs, helping you explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours in a way that feels personalised and effective.

Counselling can support a wide range of mental health and wellbeing challenges, including anxiety, stress, depression, grief, relationship difficulties, trauma, low self-esteem, or simply feeling stuck in life. Many people also use therapy for personal growth, self-discovery, and learning healthier coping strategies.

Therapy may be right for you if you’re struggling to manage emotions, relationships, work stress, or day-to-day life. You don’t need to be in crisis to benefit, many people find counselling helpful for personal development, exploring patterns, or simply having a safe, neutral space to talk.

Your first counselling session is a chance to get to know each other. We’ll talk about what has brought you to therapy, what you’d like to achieve, and how I can support you. You’ll also have the opportunity to ask questions so you can feel comfortable and confident moving forward.

A standard counselling session lasts around 50 minutes. Most clients attend weekly sessions, but this can be adjusted depending on your needs and circumstances. Regular therapy sessions provide consistency, but the frequency is always tailored to what works best for you.

There’s no one-size-fits-all answer, it depends on your goals and situation. Some people find short-term counselling (6–12 sessions) provides enough support, while others choose longer-term therapy for deeper exploration. We’ll review your progress regularly to make sure therapy is working for you.

Yes. Everything you share in counselling is confidential, with very few exceptions such as risk of harm to yourself or others, or legal requirements. Confidentiality in therapy will be explained fully in your first session so you know exactly what to expect.

Yes. You can choose between in-person counselling at my practice or online therapy sessions via a secure video platform. Online counselling can be a great option if you need flexibility, prefer to stay at home, or live further away.

Everyone is different, but some clients notice positive changes after just a few sessions, while others may benefit from longer-term counselling. The speed of results depends on the issues being addressed, your goals, and your readiness to engage in the process.

Counselling session fees can be found on the bookings page . Prices are individuals cost £40 and £60 for couples for either face to face or virtual sessions. I also offer a limited number of reduced-fee spaces for clients who need them, so please ask about availability if cost is a concern. There is a reduced rate for block bookings.

Booking a session is simple, you can click here to book or contact me via the form on the page. Once a time is agreed, I’ll send confirmation along with details about what to expect in your first therapy session.

It’s important that you feel comfortable and supported in therapy. If after a few sessions you don’t feel the right connection, we can talk about options. I’ll be happy to recommend another therapist if that feels like a better fit for your counselling journey.

No, you don’t need a GP or doctor’s referral to begin therapy at New Horizons. You can contact me directly to book a counselling session whenever you’re ready.

New Horizons provides counselling services for adults aged 18 and over. If you’re looking for therapy for children or young people, I can recommend appropriate specialist services.

Unlike therapists who use only one model (such as CBT or psychodynamic counselling), integrative therapy adapts to your individual needs. This means we can explore your past experiences, current thought patterns, emotions, and behaviours in a balanced and personalised way.

Integrative counselling can help with anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, grief, self-esteem issues, relationship difficulties, and life transitions. It’s suitable for both short-term support with practical strategies or longer-term therapy for deeper personal growth.

In your first session, we’ll discuss what’s brought you to therapy, your goals, and how I work as a counsellor. It’s also your chance to ask questions and decide if you feel comfortable moving forward with me.

Not necessarily. In integrative therapy, we’ll always work at a pace that feels safe and manageable for you. We may explore past experiences if they affect your present life, but therapy can also focus on current challenges and practical coping strategies.

That’s completely okay—different therapists and approaches work for different people. Integrative therapy is flexible, so we can try different techniques until we find what feels most supportive for you. You’ll always have a say in how the sessions progress.
